NEW DREAMING
River Daughter
From an original painting by Sam Lauren Smith
Uahomche in Mayan clearly means "The tree Which awakens us" or "We awaken in the tree"
There is so much to be learnt about our relationship with the tree.
The Mayan name Nah Chan describes the place of worship for the Sacred Tree.
The Mayan word for Tree is pronounced Te, and its symbol, which adorns pyramids and pottery is the "T". When we speak of the Spirit of the Tree, we also speak of the human spirit. For the Maya the use of "te" in a word implies a relationship of physical, spiritual and psychological union with the tree. The Mayan premise that human and tree are of similar substance. The maya say:- yaxche, "First the tree" and then the animal "baalche", or "the thing of the tree". This is the Mayan concept of the human and the tree.
